Thanks for visiting this site and checking out the blog. Today, in the face of the government shutdown I thought it would be a good idea to write a little about stress management.

One of the best things we can do for ourselves is to have a health regimen already in place so that when we are faced with challenges we have a well equipped toolkit to pull from that helps us "stay in the middle." There are a lot of things we can do to help ourselves and others in the short and long term. For instance, simply adding 5 minutes of stretching and deep breathing to our day, either in the morning or evening can do wonders to help the blood flow to muscles and help us to achieve cognitive clarity. Another thing we can do is take time for others. When we make an effort to help someone outside of ourselves it tends to improve the way we think about ourselves, but also helps others see that you value them. Investing in others is just as important as investing in the self. Additionally, being true to yourself also helps to reduce one's level of stress. Sometimes having difficult conversations are the last thing we want to do, but can be necessary for both our cognitive and behavioral health. Finally, stay connected to your energy source. Two minutes is better than no minutes and in the world of multiple distractions we can often get too busy to focus on what is important. So, stay tuned for other stress/life management tips. Please take some time to share your thoughts about the page and the blog. I look forward to it!:)
